Intern Feature: Molly Campbell

Our next intern feature is someone special: Molly Campbell, our Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations Intern! Molly has been working for Girls Code the World since January 2022 when she came across an opening through her Advertising and Public Relations Club at Penn State. At PSU, Molly is majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Digital Media Trends and Analytics, and she is also involved in CHAARG, a women’s fitness club, on top of the AD/PR Club.

Two of Molly’s best friends are computer science majors, so when she heard about the opportunity to work with Girls Code the World, she knew that she would already have the knowledge about what goes into working in STEM and was already an avid supporter of anyone in the field.

“Learning more about just how much Girls Code the World engages young girls interested in STEM and how hard they work to provide mentorship for those might not have it, made me realize that this would be an organization I would be proud to attach my name to.” ~ Molly on why she joined Girls Code the World

At Girls Code the World, Molly works on outreach and publicizing our upcoming programs to those who may be interested, want to sponsor us, or just help spread the word. She goes through hundreds of web pages looking for the best ways to contact schools and businesses and then compiles information so she can send a LOT of emails. Marketing our programs is one of the most time-consuming but absolutely essential functions of our business, and Molly has been instrumental in our partnerships and relations in order to publicize the opportunities we offer.

Molly also helps run the social media pages, where she makes beautiful and engaging graphics to share the mission of Girls Code the World in a variety of different ways. One of those ways is through our Wednesday Woman of the World posts where Molly features a different woman succeeding in STEM every week to empower those in our surrounding community who are leaders in the field. Molly also ran our Women’s History Month series where we spotlighted women who changed the world with their contributions to the scientific community. Molly played a key role in helping our organization go from providing resources and opportunities for girls aged 8-12 through our educational programs to expanding who we support to include high school, college, and corporate women who are featured on social media and benefit from our newsletter.

“The confidence that Girls Code the World instills in young women is by far one of their most important features. Being able to help young girls realize that their dreams are most definitely achievable is so rewarding. It also provides a great opportunity for high school and college aged students to become leaders and mentors as well.” ~ Molly on why she thinks the organization is important

Although Molly’s internship has been entirely remote, she “got to learn a lot about her field by getting to be hands-on”. Molly remarks on her time at Girls Code the World saying that she “learned that my position often involves gathering information from or working with others to fully complete a task, and Girls Code the World does a great job for an all-remote organization of having great communication and working together in a timely manner”.

As far as Molly’s time working with Sydney and Mina, Molly says: “Sydney and Mina put in so much work to make this operation what it is. They are always finding new ways to make it better and bring more people to the team. They have made Girls Code the World so valuable and will do amazing things with the organization and in their careers”.

We cannot thank Molly enough for her contributions to Girls Code the World. We truly would be in a different place this summer if it wasn’t for her relentless commitment to bettering the organization through outreach and communications. She is incredibly talented and a great addition to our team. We will miss her so much!

“I loved how involved everyone was and how well everyone worked together from many areas to help accomplish great things. This great group of women involved are all clearly dedicated to helping the cause and creating a wonderful space for young women to learn.” ~ Molly on her favorite part of GCTW
